Rootline client guide

Setting up your Google Business Profile, the right way.

This takes about 15 minutes, and it has to be done by you. Google requires business profiles to be created and owned by the actual business owner. If an outside company sets it up for you, Google can suspend the profile. So you'll do the clicks (we've made them stupid-simple below), and then add us as a helper at the end.

Why this matters: your Google profile is where your reviews live and how you show up on the map. It stays in your name forever, no matter who builds your website, and even if you ever leave us. That's exactly how it should be.
1

Sign in with your own Google account

Go to business.google.com on your phone or computer and sign in with the Google account you actually use (the Gmail on your phone is fine). Don't create a new account just for this. Use the one you'll never lose.

2

Add your business

  • Tap Add your business and enter your exact business name - the same name that's on your trucks and invoices.
  • Category: start typing what you do and pick the closest match Google suggests - Lawn care service, Landscaper, Tree service, Lawn sprinkler system contractor (irrigation), or Paving contractor (paver work). One main category for now; we fine-tune it together later.
  • When it asks about a location: unless customers visit an office, choose No. You're a service-area business. List the towns you actually serve.
  • Phone number: use the number you answer. (Once your Rootline system is live, we'll talk about tracking numbers; don't worry about that today.)
3

Verify it

Google will ask you to prove the business is real. Most service businesses now get video verification - a short screen-recorded video showing things like your equipment, truck signage, or business license. Other times it's a phone call or a postcard.

Tip: have your truck, trailer, or equipment nearby when you do this step. The video option goes fastest when you can just walk outside and film your gear.
4

Fill in the basics

  • Hours - when you actually answer the phone.
  • Services - mowing, cleanups, trimming, whatever you sell.
  • Photos - 10 to 20 real photos of your work and your truck. Phone photos are perfect; stock photos hurt you.
5

Add us as a manager

This is the part that lets us do our job (connecting your reviews engine, keeping the profile in sync with your new website) while you stay the owner.

  • In your Business Profile, open Settings (⚙) → People and access.
  • Tap Add, enter john@getrootline.com, and choose the Manager role.
  • That's it. You are, and always remain, the Primary owner.
